Why Nādi Parikṣa - observing the pulse?
Nādi Parikṣa is the technique we use to discover the essential nature of an individual. Each person is completely unique and reading the pulse is the science by which we can identify your personal constitution 'fingerprint'
Nādi refers to the channels through which Prāṇa flows. Prāṇa is the living energy within a person, animal or plant, often called the 'life force'. Death is equivalent to the moment when all the Prāṇa has dispersed outside the body. The system of 72,000 nādi-s are sometimes compared to the nervous system, but in Yoga and Ayurveda it is also considered to be something greater. It is a metaphor for the microscopic network of communication within the body, breath, heart and mind.
Parikṣa constitutes two root words, Pari - around, about, in the vicinity and Ikṣa - to say. Together Nādi Parikṣa is the way of telling what is happening for a person on a very subtle level

Are you being true to your self?
It is often said that in order to live a contented life, we must learn to express our true self, because this is the natural order of things. When you go WITH the forces of nature, rather than resisting them, it makes for an effortless and harmonious existence.
For example the natural behaviour of a lion is to hunt in large open spaces. If you try to put it in a cage it will eventually attempt to escape and possibly attack you. To allow the lion to live in the wild is it's most natural home, it will not present you with any threat because the resources in it's habitat are enough to sustain it.

Prakṛti - innate constitution |
Vikṛti - current constitution |
The same applies to humans - we each have by birth a set of characteristics, a natural physical and mental constitution, known to Yoga and Ayurveda practitioners as Prakṛti. Prakṛti includes all manifest or material aspects of a person. Everything that is visible through direct perception or inference such as:
|
Then there is your Vikṛti which represents the current state of affairs in your body and mind.
Simply put, the closer your Vikṛti matches your Prakṛti the happier and healthier you're likely to feel Vikṛti can diverge from Prakṛti at any point during your life, even pre-birth. It can happen suddenly or gradually, for many reasons. We don't always know WHY a change has occurred unless there is a specific memory of an event. However it is possible to tell the approximate age at which it happened using pulse reading |
What does pulse reading feel like?Having your pulse read can be a very pleasant and relaxing experience. Most often we use the wrist. After first gaining consent your teacher will use their fingertips to touch your wrist. It may take just a few minutes and is completely painless. You may be asked questions about your life, lifestyle or symptoms to verify observations made during the reading.
Pulse diagnosis is considered a special type of Parikṣa because it builds a relationship between the person who is being observed and the person doing the observing. By necessity there is an exchange of Prāṇa between the two people, otherwise the process is impossible and unreliable Don't be concerned about changes to your pulse caused by excitement or anxiety, these will not affect the accuracy What are you looking for?We look at particular characteristics of the pulse which can help us understand you better:
