Description:
Vedic Chanting originates in India, and is one of the most important tools of Yoga
In this workshop we will learn timeless Sanskrit chants in a supportive group environment. Chanting in a group can help you learn faster and enjoy the collective resonance. It promotes fluency and pace, and is great for increasing confidence
At the core of Vedic chanting is the concept of MANTRA meaning 'that which protects you'. Mantra consists of sounds which are vocalised in a very conscious way. Because each sound is said to vibrate on an elemental level, knowledgable practitioners can influence their body, mind and feelings. Individual sounds known as BIJA or 'seed sounds' are combined to create a Mantra which is specifically chosen by a teacher for it's meaning and relevance to you
Mantra-s are typically used to promote good health, peace, intelligence, abundance or devotion
Vedic chanting was little known in the western world, until pioneering teachers such as T. Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar started to make it accessible to their students of Yoga, including women, in the latter part of the 20th Century. Now it's popularity is rising, but there are still very few opportunities to practice and learn in the authentic tradition that has been passed down for millennia. The aim of this workshop is to share with you some of the secrets of this majestic technique. WARNING - Vedic chanting may change your life... for the better!
Benefits of chanting:
• stronger and longer breath
• conditions your voice, improves speech and articulation
• concentration and memory
• recognise, pronounce and understand words in the beautiful language of Sanskrit (useful for Yoga instructors)
• discover the secrets of the Veda-s, India's ancient wisdom
• direct experience of transformative resonance on many levels, physically, emotionally, and mentally too, perhaps even on a deeper more spiritual level

Yoga Foundations: Prāṇāyāma - 4 week course
Sundays Date: 25/05/2014 - 13/06/2014 From: 15:00 - 16:30
Prāṇāyāma is one of the most important tools for every yoga practitioner. It is the key to vitality of body, breath and mind.
Prāṇāyāma – the conscious management of energy within the human system – seeks to reconnect body and mind. It promotes vitality, rids the body of disease, sharpens the senses, and acts as a stepping-stone towards meditation and spiritual practices.
On this course you will have the opportunity to experience the life-enhancing effects of prāṇāyāma. Starting with the fundamental building blocks of breath work, we then explore some of the most subtle and powerful techniques yoga has to offer.
Working in a steady and progressive way we use a combination of practical exercises, theory and discussion, with optional home practice building week by week. In each session we prepare the body with āsana (postures) before exploring the breath in more detail. We refer to authoritative teachings from Patañjali’s Yoga-sūtra-s and other key sources. There are opportunities for question and answer.
By the end of the course participants will have:
You will leave feeling relaxed and revitalised.
The course is suitable for practitioners of all levels including beginners. Some topics will be of particular interest to Yoga teachers who are seeking personal development.
